CENTER FOR GUN RESPONSIBILITY LAUNCHES NEW PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECKS

August 8, 2014

Seattle, WA – Today, the Center for Gun Responsibility began a new public education campaign called Background Checks Make a Difference to help spread the word about how background checks on all gun sales can help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people, reduce violent crime, and save lives in communities here in Washington.

Over the month, a series of television commercials and advertisements will broadcast in the Seattle media market alongside a statewide online campaign to educate citizens about the importance of closing the loophole in Washington State’s law that allows dangerous people to evade background checks. The campaign has three important goals:

  1. Increase citizens’ awareness of the epidemic problem of gun violence in Washington State;
  2. Outline how comprehensive background checks make a difference in reducing gun violence; and,
  3. Educate Washington voters about the loophole in our current law that makes it easy for convicted felons, domestic abusers, and the seriously mentally ill to obtain guns without a background check.
